About
My Story
My journey so far
After enjoying 30 years of running successful IT businesses and establishing startups, I am excited by the opportunity to share my experience to help others on a similar journey. As an independent financial adviser, I help business owners and IT professionals take control of their financial future. I’m a bit of a spreadsheet-geek, and passionate about tennis, birds, metabolic health, and gadgets!
At the very beginning
Unsure what path to go down, I spent a couple of years after college as a weight-training instructor in Guildford. Along the way I became a qualified instructor in many sports, including tennis, table-tennis, badminton and swimming.
Where it really started
It didn’t take long to discover that working in a sports centre wasn’t for me, so I left and started my career in IT sales.
Discovered where I belong
Too shy for "cold-calling" in my reseller sales roles, I transitioned into product management in an IT distributor. As I learned more about go-to-market strategies for software products, I realised I could perform better for my vendors outside of the company I worked for, so at 27, I set up my own IT distributor.
Finally found my calling
I’ve been the managing director of a few IT businesses since then; specialist software distributors, IT services providers and even a specialist IT recruitment business.
Advice from lived experience
When I (semi) retired, I realised how difficult it is to run your own business and prepare for the future. I also realised that retirement wasn't really for me, as I missed the engagement and challenge of work. I retrained in a role where I could feel really good about helping other people, as a financial adviser.
